The Residents of Plainview

A town of 420 people, 5 pets, and 20 fish who perform Broadway shows when nobody's watching.

The Family

The heart of every episode. A 28-year-old tinkerer, his sharp-eyed wife, and their 7-year-old twins who couldn't be more different.

Sam Marvin

Age 28. Garage scientist. Accidental time traveler.

The protagonist. A tinkerer who built a machine in his garage that sends him to alternate timelines. Late 20s, perpetually bewildered but surprisingly adaptable. His humor comes from deadpan observations about absurd situations. He uses the machine by choice — curiosity addict. Every timeline teaches him something, usually the hard way.

Ginger Marvin

The twin who sees everything. Says little. Means all of it.

Sam and Jenny's daughter, twin with Tripp. Age ~7. The Observer. Watchful, thoughtful, absorbs everything. Doesn't say much, but when she does, it reframes the entire episode. Lisa Simpson energy at age 7. Devastating one-liners. Economy of words = maximum impact.

Jenny Marvin

Sam's wife. Sharp, loving, exasperated. Glasses off means trouble.

Sam's wife. Grounded, practical, slightly exasperated by Sam's adventures but secretly proud. 'Jenny' in warm scenes, 'Jennifer' when Sam is in trouble.

Tripp Marvin

The twin who asks too many questions. Loudly.

Sam and Jenny's son, twin with Tripp. Age ~7. The Adventurer. Thinks the machine is the coolest thing ever. Wants to come along. Sometimes does (creating 'oh no' moments). Physical comedy magnet — breaks things, runs into things, accidentally activates things.

The Pets

A judgmental dog, a genius parrot, an escape-artist hamster, a telekinetic cat, and a Pomeranian who thinks he's a Rottweiler.

Barkley

Gerald's Pomeranian. Thinks he's a Rottweiler. Barks at everything.

Gerald's dog. A tiny white Pomeranian who thinks he is a Rottweiler. Barks at absolutely everything — leaves, shadows, the mail carrier, the wind. The bark is constant, shrill, and wildly disproportionate to his size.

Einstein

Genius scarlet macaw. Understands the machine better than Sam.

Genius scarlet macaw. Understands the machine better than Sam. Communicates frustratingly.

Hamdini

Hamster escape artist with the soul of Zorro. No cage can hold him.

Pure white fluffy hamster escape artist with the soul of Zorro. Suave theatrical personality. No cage can hold him. Houdini-level breakout artist with a tiny cape and dramatic flair.

Justin

Scruffy terrier mix. Loyal but judgmental. Unreliable narrator.

Scruffy terrier mix. Loyal but judgmental talking dog. NOT smart — his opinions are often hilariously wrong. Greek chorus of the show but an unreliable narrator.

Shadow

Sleek black cat. Telekinetic powers. Completely aloof.

Sleek black cat with telekinetic powers. Completely aloof. Background rewatch reward.

Farah

Amir's wife. The real backbone. Fiercer than Amir when crossed.

Fire Chief Kowalski

Treats the volunteer dept like FDNY. Two calls a year.

Frank

Grocery manager for 20 years. Always offering samples.

Gerald Pryor

The neighbor. Aggressively normal. Suspiciously observant.

Hank

Mail carrier. Sees everything. 25 years on the route.

Movie theater owner. Quiet man of few words. The calm center.

Presides over parking tickets with Supreme Court gravity.

Dr. Marsh's daughter. Cleanest teeth in school.

Yara

Amir and Farah's toddler. The baby of the gas station.

The Broadway Cast

20 fish in the Marvin living room who perform elaborate Broadway-style choreography that nobody in the family acknowledges. A rewatch reward.

Annie

The set designer. Every backdrop is her masterpiece.

Blaze

The hothead. Smallest temper in the tank.

Bozo

The leading man. Steals every scene by existing.
